Meet the marvelous Yasu the Pallas's cat. He lives in Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
He's four months old, born on May 26, 2025 in Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens to the family of Eru the Pallas's cat and Minya the Pallas's cat.
Being the youngest-looking brother of the fluffy trio, Yasu was named after Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川 家康) — a great warlord and samurai, the first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate and the founder of the shogun dynasty that ruled Japan for about 260 years. Ieyasu unified Japan, becoming the third of Japan’s three “Great Unifiers”! Read more about the names of Yasu.

Naming history of Yasu the Pallas's cat
On October 13, 2025 in Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens he was given his name Yasu (ヤス), which he is known by to this day. The names for Eru and Minya’s three sons were chosen through a public vote — participants could select from three themed sets of names. In the end, the winning set was dedicated to the great and legendary warlords from Owari. The most easygoing and youngest-looking of the trio was named after Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川 家康) — a samurai and warlord, founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate in Japan. He was a companion and successor of Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, becoming the third of Japan’s three “Great Unifiers.” “Just as these great historical figures from Owari became known to the world, we hope that the three brothers born here will also become beloved and well-known,” the zoo said.
