Naming history of Nobu the Pallas's cat
On October 13, 2025 in Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens he was given his name Nobu (ノブ), which he is known by to this day. The names for Eru and Minya’s three sons were chosen through a public vote — participants could select from three themed sets of names. In the end, the winning set was dedicated to the great Japanese warlords from Owari. Thus, the one with the sharpest and most striking face among the fluffy trio was named after Oda Nobunaga (織田 信長) — an outstanding samurai, warlord and a military political leader who paved the way to bring order to Japan during the age of civil wars. Nobunaga was an influential figure in Japanese history and is considered the first “Great Unifier” of Japan. “Just as these great historical figures from Owari became known to the world, we hope that the three brothers born here will also become beloved and well-known,” the zoo said.
