Naming history of Hide the Pallas's cat

On October 13, 2025 in Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens he was given his name Hide (ヒデ), which he is known by to this day. The names for Eru and Minya’s three sons were chosen through a public vote — participants could choose from three groups of names, each united by a different theme. In the end, the winning group was dedicated to the legendary warlords of Owari. The second brother of the fluffy trio was named after Toyotomi Hideyoshi (豊臣 秀吉) — an outstanding Japanese warlord, samurai, and great statesman who unified most of Japan. Hideyoshi is regarded as the second “Great Unifier” of Japan. “Just as these great historical figures from Owari became known to the world, we hope that the three brothers born here will also become beloved and well-known,” the zoo said.
