Manul Synok and his parents

I found the life story of the manul Synok on the internet in two different sources (1, 2). His mother died the day after he was born, and the other kittens also died. Synok was left alone and was fed and raised by the zoo staff.

However, the article says that his presumed parents are Cesar and Kelen, while Synok’s profile lists Right and Joyce. But Joyce lived until the autumn of 2006, and Kelen until 2011.

So if Synok’s mother really was Joyce, then is the date of her death listed incorrectly? Or did she survive the infection, but the kitten was raised by people while Joyce was ill? I’m confused.

Today, Saturday, July 18, 2026, Timosha had a lovely walk. Here is how it went.

At 11:09 local time, even before the active phase of the walk began, the prince was reclining on his favorite shelf. Framed by fresh greenery and with a little leaf shaped like a bird above his head, he was especially beautiful. The audience applauded. The kitty was pleased.

Funny things in the manul map 2

Sugary Shampoo

With some firefox settings changed I could zoom out this much, rendering the world about 4 times. By this point it was lagging so I pulled up cpuid and found that my cpu was put under most of the pressure. If you have a good cpu, try if you can zoom out even more.

Ps: Dear Manulization.

If  you could make it so the map is rendered in the gpu, it would run much faster accross platforms.

News about the minuls from Brno

and new stunning photos!
Manulization, Manulization

Friends, recently at the Brno Zoo the minuls had a veterinary checkup, during which the kittens’ sex was determined. You’ll be surprised, but not all of them turned out to be boys!🤭 Three kittens are girls, and two are boys.

Alas, one of the kittens did not survive😥 To this day, one of the main problems in keeping manuls in captivity remains the high mortality rate among kittens.

We wish the fluffy Czech five to grow up healthy and strong and become big and very serious manuls! And now let’s admire the new delightful photos of the manul kittens shared with us by Jan Máca.

Back to see the gang at Lakeland Wildlife Oasis!

Hannah Bolam

On Tuesday 14th July I took a drive over to see how Bat-Erdene, Altai and Khutga are settling in! They did not disappoint!

All asleep when I first arrived (another very warm morning) but that soon changed (for two of them, at least!). I had a very lucky catch when a keeper came to clean them out, offer chicks and...drum roll....give them a ball pit to play with! Hilarity ensued!

I'm pleased to say they all seem to be doing great, and now with some help I am a little better at identifying them - Bat seems to be the most confident of the trio, always playing hide and seek with me around the enclosure and keeping his eye on me, and had no fear of the keeper entering.

Altai is second, he had a long bath inside his hut but then did decide to come out and investigate lunch, then retreated again for another nap.

Visiting Elmwood Park manuls!

more_horiz
mnamosyna (rachael)

I'd been trying to wait until the weather got cooler, but I had a few days off this week with nothing special to do and got impatient so I decided to make a manul pilgrimage to Elmwood Park Zoo to try to see Kasper and Reza in their new home.

It's a small zoo, but nice! Seems clean and well-maintained. It's pretty much right off the Pennsylvania Turnpike so even though it's farther than Prospect Park for me, it's probably easier to get to.

Found the manul enclosure between the North American porcupine and red-tailed hawk. All three enclosures look new and aren't on the zoo map yet so I presume this space was built just for Kasper and Reza. ☺️ And just look how nice and big it is! Both sides belong to them.
