Hide is moving in to Grusha!

Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens has announced that Hide, a young male manul, will be transferred to Asahiyama Zoo on June 10, 2026.

Hide was born at Higashiyama Zoo on May 26, 2025, as one of three kittens — Nobu, Hide, and Yasu. Their birth was especially meaningful, marking the zoo’s first successful Pallas’s cat breeding in 23 years.

We wish Hide all the manul happiness in his new home at Asahiyama Zoo!

The magnificent Pallas's cat Sylvester has been working for more than one year now at the Novosibirsk Zoo in the quality control department of the Leopard café. He is responsible for metrology on the grilled meat line (shashlik).

Every morning Sylvester gets up early to make it to his workplace on time, and carefully monitors every technological operation on the grilled meat preparation line. This is a very responsible job — the guests of the Novosibirsk Zoo count on receiving the highest-quality service when visiting what is perhaps the city’s most popular place, and the Leopard café is famous for its hospitality and coziness. Only shashlik of the very best quality can satisfy the expectations of the zoo’s guests. And Sylvester personally bears the full burden of responsibility for quality control of the shashlik in our shady café.

How wonderful that our beloved fluffballs not only delight the eye, but also bring real benefit.

The manul’s appearance is entirely subordinated to one main task: blending into the landscape. Its grayish-ochre coat with barely visible stripes perfectly mimics scattered stones and withered steppe grass, allowing manuls to remain unnoticed.

Now I do not have much time so I'll make this quick. I believe that Roman Paulov is a manul undercover, and not just any manul, the king of all manuls. Now how do I know this, well look at this real photo that was recently recovered.

Yeah he said that. Plus the image says "image of a pallas cat". 

Plus he was able to summon that big manul, implying he has a power above it. Another thing is that no matter what, he will only buy things with manul rubles, nothing else. How does he have so many? Why can he summon big manul? Why did he say that? 

It's all because he is the king of manuls undercover.

Yesterday evening, the cubs shyly but curiously peeked out of their house for the very first time! Lolo guided them and looked around, and at us, very attentively and very seriously 😁

We visited the zoo near the town of Neuwied today. Neuwied is located in western Germany, on the banks of the Rhine, roughly halfway between Frankfurt and Cologne. The zoo is about 10 kilometers from the station. From the nearest bus stop, you still have to climb uphill for another 30 minutes.

The zoo has a large area and lots of greenery. In the more remote part, if it weren’t for the mesh along the sides of the path, you could think you were walking through a forest. On the downside, the grounds are in the hills and a bit vertical, so you can get tired.

The manul enclosure is not far from the entrance. The nearest neighbors on the left:

anteater (is there such a neighbor anywhere else!?), but it was in the winter indoor area.
