Let us introduce you to the gorgeous Mensu the Pallas's cat. He lives in Novosibirsk Zoo.
He's nine months old, born on April 26, 2025 in Novosibirsk Zoo to the family of Achi the Pallas's cat and Snezhinka the Pallas's cat.
While their official names have not yet been announced, we call all of Snezhinka’s kittens born in 2025 after rivers that begin at the foot of mountain Belukha — the sacred mountain of Altai and the highest peak in Siberia. Belukha means “White/Snowy Mountain,” which symbolically echoes Snezhinka’s name, which means “a snowflake” in Russian.
Mensu is a powerful and deep mountain river, its name stemming from the Altai “Мööҥ-суу,” which means “whirlpool, stream pool.” This “speaking” name metaphorically reflects the nature of our hero: outwardly enigmatic and quiet, like a stream pool, yet holding within the strength and wild power of a fluffy child of the steppe.
