Meet the terrific Akkem the Pallas's cat. He lives in Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre.
He's one year old, born on April 26, 2025 in Novosibirsk Zoo to the family of Achi the Pallas's cat and Snezhinka the Pallas's cat. Read more about the travels of Akkem.
While their official names have not yet been announced, we call all of Snezhinka’s kittens born in 2025 after rivers that begin at the foot of mountain Belukha — the sacred mountain of Altai and the highest peak in Siberia. Belukha means “White/Snowy Mountain,” which symbolically echoes Snezhinka’s name, which means “a snowflake” in Russian.
Akkem is a majestic and powerful mountain river, rushing in a foamy torrent down its steep valley. Its swift, noisy, and untamed nature mirrors the temperament of our young hero. For his restless, bold, and mischievously cheeky character, manulovers also call him Baragoz which means in Russian “playful and fun-loving little guy.”
