The names were chosen based on the fact that the father’s name, “Naru,” means “sun” in Mongolian, and the mother’s name, “Az,” means “happiness,” so each of the five kittens was given a name symbolizing “happiness connected with the sun.”

The manul kittens had their first checkups: weighing, sex confirmation, palate check, their first deworming, and transponder implantation. They are all doing well, as they should be for their age.

The number of manul kittens is not yet known; three were seen.
One of them is very persistent 😁:
"We’re doing as promised. A few days ago we shared the joyful news with you about the birth of tiny minunls. And yet in the video you could see only three kittens.
So we’re very happy that we have not three or four, but six little ones!
Their mother is taking good care of them in her den, but we believe that soon you’ll see them exploring their outdoor enclosure.
We look forward to your visit."

Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens has announced that Hide, a young male manul, will be transferred to Asahiyama Zoo on June 10, 2026.
Hide was born at Higashiyama Zoo on May 26, 2025, as one of three kittens — Nobu, Hide, and Yasu. Their birth was especially meaningful, marking the zoo’s first successful Pallas’s cat breeding in 23 years.
We wish Hide all the manul happiness in his new home at Asahiyama Zoo!

The move was planned for April 29th, but apparently they rushed and prepared Grusha's new home for the holiday, and now, on International Pallas's Cat Day, our precious Grusha is no longer jumping on the old wobbly shelves! Hooray! 🎉🎉🎉

On a sunny spring day, Pallas's cats gathered in the Mongolian steppe to celebrate their holiday—Pallas's Cat Day. The master of the steppe—the wild Pallas's cat—welcomed guests from various countries and zoos.
During the merry dance, all the guests got mixed up, and now it's impossible to tell who's who. The task is to identify all the visiting Pallas's cats, and also find the master of the steppe—the wild Pallas's cat.

Grusha is scheduled to move to a new enclosure on April 29. The zoo shared and showed what this new home will look like.
The new fenced area consists of an area with artificial rocks and a grassy area. Artificial rocks:
This type of enclosure was created because Pallas's cats hide not only in rocky but also in grassy areas.
