Today was time for another regular Akiko pilgrimage to Edinburgh! He put on a real show and was very active, and very angry! ❤️🐾

He is such a great example of a grumpy classic Manul. Well done Akiko ❤️🐾

Half of the enclosure was closed off and a new nesting box seen....👀👀👀 I hope Akiko is on his best behaviour and puts on his most attractive fur coat!

Enjoy the pictures - hopefully some videos also will load! ❤️

Hello, Akiko!!!  You are looking awfully handsome! 😍

I'm obsessed with the video of him rolling on his back. 🤩🤩

Wonderful photos! Thank you for sharing! Akiko is a handsome fellow with a splendid pedigree!

Great photos of you together with him: in one photo he looks at you with love, and in the second he’s already scolding you 😁 What a changeable character this guy has 🤗

    He's both grumpy and adorable😻😻😻

By the way, in Japan Akiko is a popular name for women. Do you know where the name came from?

Maeko Ushiro, Hi there, that's interesting! Him and his brothers were named in their birth zoo (Banham Zoo) I believe by way of public Facebook name suggestions- so someone must have suggested it!

    Hannah Bolam, I see. Thanks😉

Among his late brothers' names, Oto might be a Japanese name, but other names don't sound like Japanese. Interesting.

Wow! Hannah, thank you so much for taking us along on a pilgrimage to the handsome Akiko! 😻

I read your article, watched all the photos and videos with great pleasure, and I’m glad to see not only Akiko in the photos, but you as well 🥰

Akiko seems like a very brave and cheeky little guy and isn’t afraid of people — that’s awesome! 😎

I really hope that Roma and I will get to see him someday too! 🤞🏻

Vika Malyshkoverified_filled, A naming contest was announced at the zoo.

    1. Akiko (a Japanese name) was invented by Laura Ann Giles’s ten-year-old daughter; it means "bright child."

    2. Oto was invented by Anne Epton; it is short for otocolobus manul.

    3. Into was invented by Louise K. Barnes; she had lovely students from Mongolia, and it is the name of one of the students.

    4. Kulki was invented by Lou Hales-Greer; in Kazakh, it means "quarrelsome."
