Features of manul photography. International Cat Whiskers Awareness Day
As we, of course, remember, today is International Cat Whiskers Awareness Day (International Cat Whiskers Awareness Day)† On this day, manul lovers all over the world rejoice at photos of their beloved fluffballs with cheekily bristling whiskers and eyelashes.
Today, on International Cat Whiskers Awareness Day, August 5, 2026, IMWCA‡ announces the standardization of the international benchmark and unit of measurement for manul whiskeriness. Timofendiy (abbrev. Tmf). 1 Tmf corresponds to the cheekiness and sweep of whiskers characteristic of the manul Timofey, the universally recognized whisker champion.
It is generally believed that values from 8 to 9 decitimofendiy (dTmf) are reached only by select manuls with superbly bristling whiskers and eyelashes.
IMWCA (International Manul Whiskers Certification Alliance) is an international metrological service authorized to measure manul whiskers and assign ratings in dTmf. At IMWCA’s first plenary session, it was collectively decided to use dTmf as the main metrological manul-whisker unit.
Manul whiskerologists all over the world note the importance of photographing our beloved fluffballs at the moments of the most sweeping whisker bristling and the most splayed-out rise of eyelashes. After all, every manul deserves at least a 5 dTmf rating!
Please note that whiskers are not limited to whiskers alone. For example, the manul Gabi received a 5 dTmf rating for the harmonious harmony of whisker bristling and eyelash lift. What a marvelously wonderful whisker complex in all its complexity!
Leading manul whiskerologists have established that mamanuls during the period of raising minuls rarely receive ratings below 6 dTmf.
The working hypothesis about the correlation between joyful excitement and an elevated level of timofendiy is currently under review.
The IMWCA research team asks all manul photographers to send more photos of mamanuls with minuls. This is our way of helping science.
Manul whiskerologists also note that active involvement in mating games raises the level of timofendiy to 5 and above. Manul photographers! Send more photos of furballs in love, and we will help science.

Few people know this, but in the office next door to the International Manul Whiskers Certification Alliance sits the International Manul Grumpiness Union — the International Union of Manul Grumpiness.
To assess a manul’s level of grumpiness, the George coefficient is used.

Viva vibrissae!
Hmm, now that’s interesting: zoologists weigh manuls and measure kitten body length when necessary, but they don’t measure whisker length!😱😁 Now it seems to me that this is a major scientific oversight! Whose vibrissae grow faster: male minuls or female minuls? What is the growth rate of manul whiskers in kittenhood, and does it change with age? Which manul has the longest vibrissae? And which one has the fluffiest? So many questions!
In short, I consider International Cat Whiskers Awareness Day a very important holiday! 😄👏🏻

And whiskers *must* be counted too. For example, I do this regularly. We have bandages and antiseptic in the house, so why not count the kitty’s whiskers? 😹🤣
P.S. There are no spare fingers in the house, and I refuse to count the cat’s whiskers 😹🤣
