All i managed to figure out is that Marie was born to Duco (father) and Marsja (mother) but thats it, no clue whetehr any of them are related to Polly.
I've been meaning to sign in for a while; Manulization is a wonderful site.
Just came here to say that I think Marie had a sister. She was born on the same day, also in Rotterdam, and went to live in Riga Zoo. Unfortunately, she only lived to be 2 years old. She's got a page here as "Pallas's cat born 2006", and some nice photos that are on her page and the page for Riga Zoo. Does anyone know her name?
Tabby's husband Oscar (Bol's dad) also came from Rotterdam to Japan at the same time as Marie. Born the same year but a different birthdate, so I guess Rotterdam had 2 mamanuls that year if the dates are correct.
With thanks to: reports from Diergaarde Blijdorp and the Newsletter of the Guides in Blijdorp.
As you are used to, on these pages we look back at developments in Blijdorp over the past few months. More detailed animal news can be found in the mutations section (p. 23).
Playful kittens
On 31 March this year, the manuls Duco and Marsja became the proud parents of no fewer than six young! As is customary with almost all cat species, mother Marsja is raising her brood on her own; father Duco has been temporarily housed elsewhere to give Marsja more peace and quiet.
Manuls have already been born in Blijdorp before, but a litter of six young is still quite special. Marsja, together with her three sons and three daughters, has been temporarily housed in Blijdorp's so-called cat roundabout. They are usually very easy to see there, and with six of those playful kittens many visitors remain fascinated, watching them for a long time.
Manuls naturally have an enormously thick coat. In their native region in Central Asia it is usually terribly cold, and then a thick coat is indispensable for survival. But with the recent heat waves, such a woolly blanket around you is more of a burden than a comfort. Even so, the young manuls played a lot with one another. Blijdorp is rather proud of Marsja and her six young. Elsewhere in the zoo there is another female manul, who gave birth to another two young about a week after Marsja. She can be seen in the special manul enclosure on the edge of the Mongolian steppe in the Asia section. The six other young will also be moved there very soon. Our enclosure is being used well.
The rusty-spotted cats have also had a family expansion. The two young are doing excellently. Incidentally, the Asian lioness that has just arrived is pregnant! With a bit of luck, we will therefore see lion cubs in the enclosure before too long.
That is to say, on 31 March 2006 Marsja gave birth to six kittens by Duco (three females and three males). Two of them are Mari and her sister from Riga. A week later (6 April 2006), another female gave birth to two more kittens, father unknown. One of them is Oscar.
On 5 May one male was sent to Poznan. On 27 May one male died. On 19 July one female died.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find out the name of this female from the Riga Zoo, or perhaps she never had one at all. Alas, many of the Riga Zoo archives have been lost, and in what remains, her name is not indicated.
In the next few days I’ll try to add more information to the site about Mari’s lineage, which we do have 😉🙌🏻

grushafan21, Oh, and I think I’ve come across videos of them on YouTube
At least there were old videos too, and the enclosure looked similar
