Goodbye, Jochi! ๐
Friends, sad news from the Howletts Wild Animal Park, UK: the wonderful manul Jochi, the youngest son of the legendary Temuchin, has passed away ๐
Jochi lived a long manul life โ he was 10 years old.
We dreamed of meeting him in purrrson and were head over heels in love with his charming and funny snub-nosed, serious little face and his expressive, grumpy gaze of a steppe warrior.ย Now his photos will remain with all of us as a keepsake. ๐
Jochi, you grumpy fluffy gentlecat, we adore you and will always remember you โค๏ธ
May you have an endless, sunlit heavenly steppe, at your disposal dear manul! May your teeth stay sharp and strong, and may the hunt for rats and pikas always be successful!

I learned his name for the first time a few years ago as a manul who survived toxoplasmosis. I don't know what caused his passing away, it's a small mercy he lived as long as ten years. But I miss him.

I wasn't familiar with Jochi, it's always hard to keep up with all the wonderful manuls around the world, but thanks to the community we can always take these sad occasions to appreciate the greatness of these cats in life. I'm sure he had a good life and both keepers and visitors were very fond of him
10 long years of a fluffy life. May he have a good time in heaven
It is very important to note that Juchiโs fatherโs name โ Temujin โ is Genghis Khanโs second name. And Juchi himself was named after the son of the mighty Mongol khan!ย

What a pity... Juchi looks so stern and is such a good cat! We will always remember that indescribable grumpy expression on his little face.
Now, in the heavenly steppes, you are well and free, I believe that!
My condolences to everyone who visited Juchi in person, to all the keepers and zoo staff. They are feeling the loss most deeply. It is hard for them right now.

Was Jochi one of the manuls in the pallas cat feeding frenzy video? There is a clip in it starting at 1:06 that i think shows his dadย Temuchin.
It's sad to only learn the names of manuls from cute videos after their passing. ๐ข
Sweet dreams Jochi โค๏ธ ย you will be very much missed by many regular visitors to Howletts as you were always a big favourite with lots of people. Iโm so pleased you made it to your 10th birthday as I know you werenโt a well cat over the last few years but what a little fighter you were - going to miss your little grumpy face โค๏ธ
Howletts was the first place that I ever saw Pallas cats & fell in love with these fluffy cats so will always hold a special place in my heart - I do hope eventually they have Pallas cats there again in the futureย
