Pallas Pilgrimage: Budapest

Yesterday I visited Budapest, the final station of my Pallas Pilgrimage. Again I arrived early at the zoo to maximize my chance of seeing the manuls. The enclosure had fewer toys than the Brno enclosure and fewer hiding spots than Prague. I spotted little Boris almost immediately in the back of the enclosure near the little house and also saw Lucy's bright eyes staring out of the shadow of the house.

When a train drove by and made noise, it startled Boris a little. He went back to relaxing soon after.

I watched him some more and then went to look at the other animals.

When I returned later, Boris was more active and walked around the enclosure. After a while, he had a sip of water.

Lucy also made a brief appearance.

After walking around some more, Boris climbed up the metal mesh to the house and rested a bit.

My 3rd stop at the enclosure returned some of the best images. Boris walked right up to the glass and attracted the attention of many visitors. His cute behaviour may have turned some people there into manulovers.

Here he reminds me a bit of Dunzi

When Boris was sitting on top of the house, Lucy came out to grab him and take him inside.

But Boris didn't stay in the house long and went back outside where he fell asleep.

There was no manul merch but the zoo map had a manul printed on the back. I did not get to see Bohus who I think is kept in an enclosure visitors can't see.

Caroline Townsend, Yeah, it was a very successful pilgrimage thanks to all the advice I got from you and others 😊.
The manulization community is great and I'm glad I can share my photos and reports here.
