Australian Manuls
Hello fellow Manulovers, how possible do you think it is that manuls could be introduced to an Australian zoo. This post in not a request but simply what opinions do people have on manuls living in captivity on Australian soil??
There are many places in Australia that wouldn’t be too hot for a manul, and even then advanced cooling systems exist. Also, I’m pretty sure transcaspian/persian manuls do inhabit some warmer places in Iran. The steppes do get considerably warm in summer as well.
Australia is one of the two habitable continents that does not house captive manuls, the other being Africa.
I’d love to know others opinions on Australian manuls!!

It was a great spread of manuls, especially the Trans-Caspian ones, but I’m so worried about their relocation to such a faraway place (I know some manuls in the US were transported all the way from Mongolia, even though Australia seems closer, but I’d love to see manulovers in such a beautiful country!
It would probably be hard for manuls there, because there are lots of spiders and a hot climate
Remembering that Polly moved from Sweden to Japan, where she lived a wonderful life and became a true star, I think that manuls would also settle in Australia if the necessary climate conditions were created for them.
It would be very interesting to watch the lives of manuls in an Australian zoo, and especially the little manul kittens!

As an Australian I would love to house manuls somewhere in our country! (then I wouldn't have to travel all the way to Japan to see them LOL) Tasmania would have a good climate as it is closer to Antarctica than the rest of the country and it gets very cold there. I hope in the future we play host to some furry friends from the steppe!
I think manuls should be spread far and wide so as many people get to experience them as possible!!!!

He died in 1907 at the London Zoo. Before that, he had managed to live at the Calcutta Zoo.
Even back in 1907, people were already capable of both creating conditions in India for a manul’s life and transporting him to Britain.
There are hardly any technical obstacles now to transporting manuls to Australia and organizing conditions there suitable for our beloved furry little mounds. If only there were the will to do it.
yura_manuloman52, “A bunch of spiders” is more of a guess than the truth! Australia does have cold places too, for example Tasmania!
I guess the main issue for manuls would be changing summer coat to winter coat because the climat there is upside down in comparison to their natural habitat.
Annika Wawrzyńska, yes, definitely. This is one of my biggest concerns regarding Australian manuls. The change of hemispheres would be a challenge for anyone
