The kittens Pepe and Shu from the Leningrad Zoo have been given names!
Yesterday the Leningrad Zoo celebrated its birthday — it turned 161 years old. To mark the occasion, the zoo shared wonderful news: the minuls Shu and Pepe have been given names!
Recently, specialists from the “Predatory Mammals” department carried out a follow-up examination of the little ones. As they grew, their gender characteristics became more visible, and it turned out that the fluffy quartet is three sons and one darling daughter (not two sons and two daughters, as reported earlier) 🥰
Meet the fluffy boys Aiden, Berk, Batyr, and the girl Aksa 😻
As a reminder, four manul kittens were born to Pepe and Shu on May 8, 2026. For Pepe, this is her first experience as a mamanul.

Вика, My hypothesis is that it’s an homage to Pepe’s origins. He, too, was brought to St. Petersburg from the Altai (almost, hehe). Hence the names with a Turkic flavor.
Aksa — pure, bright.
Aiden — free, independent, strong.
Batyr — a bogatyr, of course.
Berk — noble.
