Features of manul photography. Kayfushnost and Sylvester
Last week I had the chance to make a photographic pilgrimage to the very center of manul civilization. To Novosibirsk.
I’ve already written, and I’m sure I’ll write again more than once, that what is especially appealing about manuls is their catness. They are not stern, gloomy grumps, as they are so often portrayed and shown. They are cats.
For example, Sylvester. On June 21 this year, he gave a full-fledged session of feline bliss. With little paws.
With the hind legs.
And with a little meatball against the backdrop of sleep.

I see both sternness and cat-ness in manuls. It’s precisely this combination that captivates me about them.
For me, the manul is like a mountain, or like an endless steppe, or even like a steppe flower that seems to have grown up in defiance among stones and winds — they are majestic, stern, and yet devastatingly beautiful.
What’s interesting is that in no other cat do I feel that same concentration, that same forceful surge of primal strength and wisdom that I feel in manuls ❤️
(but, I suppose, everyone sees and feels their own thing. Probably, deep down, I’m just a stern and gloomy northern woman and I see manuls the same way 😹)
