I wonder whether anyone besides these manuls has ever made the same face as Lev on the passport?
I was just browsing the r/PallasCats subreddit when I saw a video of Lotus wiping his face with a stone. A normal video, but at the beginning of the video, not long before he started wiping, he showed his :0 (surprised) face. Just like Lev on the passport.

And then the question arose: are there any other manuls that make or have made such a face? (Not counting Lev, Lotus, Oto)

Oh, that’s called the Flehmen response.
Many animals do this, and all cats do too. At such times, they analyze smells with a special sense organ called the Jacobson’s organ. Jacobson’s organ is something like a chemical analyzer connected to their brain 🤖
At that moment they look funny, but in fact they are carrying out chemical analysis! 🤓 Usually they do this when investigating other animals’ scent marks and smells to understand who it is, whether they are ready for the mating season, whether they are healthy, and so on.
For example, Lev was photographed like this after he was released into an enclosure where Bol and Polly had recently been walking. He was walking around and exploring the enclosure, sniffing their scent marks.
We very often see manuls with faces like that during the mating season, when they are “reading” each other’s notes 😁
