What do Pallas’s cats and “Sex and the City” have in common?
Today in the #HistoricalManulization series – the fluffy gentlemanul Baryshnikov! 🤩

Yes, that was truly his name — this little manul was born and lived at the Cincinnati Zoo in the United States. He was named after the outstanding Soviet and American ballet dancer and actor Mikhail Nikolayevich Baryshnikov, who gained particular popularity in America after his role in the popular TV series Sex and the City.
Baryshnikov the Pallas's cat was hand-raised by the zoo staff. Sadly, he passed away in 2008 at around 3 years of age.
And what’s interesting about his pedigree?

The fluffy Baryshnikov was the son of manuls Yuri and Marina and the older brother of a manul named Igor — which means he was the uncle of the legendary Petenka-Kartoshka!
Such a wonderfully cultural and historical manulization! 👌🏻

He's so sweet 🤗 It's a shame he didn't live long enough
It's so unusual to see so many Russian names in a family tree.
l83, Oh yes! By the way, Roma and I have long ago noted that in the past, it was apparently very popular in America to name Pallas's cats with Russian names, but now there's a fashion for "Mongolian" names (especially in European zoos).
At the same time, at the Novosibirsk Zoo, the names of the Pallas's cats have always been in the European style.
Here it is, Manulocultural diffusion!🤓😁
I once guessed he is Boris in Prospect Park Zoo. Now it turns out to be him elder brother. surprised :)
