He's seven years old, born on March 28, 2017 in Utah's Hogle Zoo to the family of Petenka the Pallas's cat and Haru the Pallas's cat. Read more about the travels of Tate.
He was given his first name Tater in Utah's Hogle Zoo where he was born. When he moved to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo he was given a new name—Tate. Read more about the names of Tate.
In 2023 he became the first manul to have his genome sequenced, shedding important light on the biology of manuls. In 2024 he was elected as the president of Utica zoo during Pre-ZOO-Dent's Campaign.

In December of 2017 Tate moved from Utah's Hogle Zoo to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
In March of 2019 Tate moved from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo to Utica Zoo.
