More ideas for Manulization
Recently, Manulization has added notifications, followers and more. That got me thinking: what could be some other ideas?
Idea one: page customization
Image this: you go onto someones page and it shows a flurry of colours and manuls all selected by that, and you have one like that too.
Idea two: selection of manuls
You go into someones page and you see a manul surrounded by a star. "My favourite manuls" with a list of beautiful manuls.
Idea three: better search
When you try to search up someones name, instead of just the text of the names, there are names and photos of the people you want to see. This can also apply to zoos and other things.
Idea four: manul scrolling
You know what Tiktok and Youtube shorts do? Imagine that, but with pallas's cats. Its way better, and the better way to get brain rot.
Idea five: auto news
You see a topic that is important, but it is only in the steppe. Instead of that, a bot ( or human ) automatically turns it into something in the news.
Idea six: more info
You go into a manuls page, and you want to know more about them that is public. this feature can show stuff such as their exact age to the days, their medical status, current location, weight etc..

What about letting members edit the manuls’ pages themselves? Something like Fandom or Wikipedia. The only problem I can see so far is that members might add misinformation, so moderators would be needed for that (although in my experience, regular members handle this on wikis too). Another possible issue is raids, though I doubt anything like that would happen here. I like your idea of member profile pages; I’ve been dreaming of something like that on Manulization for a long time.
First manul in the profile (with multiple choice, because sometimes I'm not sure which of the two/three I met first).
Your first manul is a special kitty. After meeting one, every fold in your brain takes the shape of a manul.

No thank you to the algorhythm. Hate this feature everywhere it's present. It IS brainrot.
Thank you so much for the ideas!!!
Customizable profiles and a list of favorite manuls are already on my to-do list :)
Improved search is also on the task list—right now comments, posts, and zoos are displayed as text links, and that needs to be redone :)
Scrolling through manuls! It hadn’t occurred to me before, but I think it can be done. We need to think about the mechanics, since we have a lot of horizontal videos.
Automated news is also quite an interesting feature, and if there are more posts, it will be needed. For now, Vika and I check the posts every day (almost) and turn interesting ones into news. In fact, anyone can make their own post into news when they write it :)
More information about Pallas's cats... In principle, the site currently contains virtually all publicly available information about living and deceased Pallas's cats, as well as our findings and information passed on to us by some zoos. What kind of information do you mean? There are some things that are not listed, because it is not entirely clear how to present them without causing misunderstandings—for example, a Pallas's cat’s weight, which is constantly changing :)

The manul pages lack personal, specific information about each individual animal.
I don't know... for example, whether it was raised by a domestic cat, suffered from this or that illness, stood out for certain traits, was known for something, was artificially bred, and so on—or perhaps some interesting stories connected with a particular manul.
As a rule, we know this information, but so far I haven't had the time or energy to add it—it’s a colossal amount of work, damn it! 🙈
sw1ten_, At first, I wanted to create a website where people could edit and add manuls themselves. We abandoned that idea.
In systems like this, it is important to establish rules for moderating changes. Wikipedia has a rule that any information must come from a reliable source, and an author cannot share their own opinion there, even if they are an expert on the subject, because Wikipedia is not a primary source of knowledge.
This system is far from perfect, and there have been many cases where false information was written on Wikipedia because there was a media article containing incorrect data, and experts in the field tried to correct it but, alas, were unable to do so.
Our website is popular science, and we would like (and strive) to ensure that it contains only truthful information about the manul population. That is why we try not to publish anything we are not 100% certain of and that has not been confirmed (although we do sometimes make mistakes). Since most zoological information about manuls is not publicly available (three quarters of the genealogical tree; veterinary records, diets, training and its results, medical examinations, information about enclosures, enclosure engineering solutions, environmental enrichment, etc. are not public for 95% of manuls), it would be very difficult to moderate the information.
If someone makes an edit saying that manul X currently weighs Y kg, how can that be verified?
Of course, we could require every edit to include a link to a source, but then we would turn into a wiki, where the existence of a source would prevent us from deleting an edit even if a zoo specialist tells me in person that the edit is incorrect.
We would be happy for zoos to have the ability to edit and add animals, but it would be very difficult for most zoos to do this, since people at zoos usually already have plenty of work, and keeping this information up to date on the website would be additional unpaid labor...
Perhaps, over time, we will involve people in communicating with zoos, and we will have journalists/activists who enter the data themselves, but for now we do not 🙃
If you have any ideas on how we could do better, we are always happy to listen!
Perhaps a special symbol on a manul’s personal page that would indicate how many site visitors have seen them in person (the main thing is not to confuse an in-person encounter with one in a dream 😊)
l83, That's a good idea!
partyontheobjective, Manureels! 😹
I would like to see the story of how Magellan got his name. I recall there being one similar to the one about Karaganda but either it was removed or I am wrong about seeing it here. I gather he was just following the normal instincts of a young manul in fall only to explore his way out of a gap in his enclosure .
yealurowluro, Yes, probably we need an editor who will help to write all these stories! 😻
