I'm still not getting what "oppression of marginalized groups" you are talking about and how it suppose to be connected with manuls.

A little off-topic for the post. I think stricter measures need to be taken to protect manuls from poachers in the wild. Unfortunately, there have been cases, including getting caught in traps set for other animals.

anna_yu, Well, those who are oppressive are using manuls as symbols for their hate, they're being used as dog whistles for other oppressors. Anything can become symbols or dog whistles for other oppressors. Although the manul being used as hate isn't quite mainstream, we should crush it before it does. Hate and oppression of marginalized groups are not connected to manuls in a literal sense, but manuls are starting to be used as a symbol of oppression. If I would say the best example of something innocent and being turned into a sign of hate is the swastika, it was originally a peace and good fortune symbol across many cultures—but the Nazi regime used it as a means of oppression. Because of the swastika being well known for it's oppressive use, the swastika will be more better known as a hate symbol rather than it's intended use. The same is happening to manuls, if they are the poster-child for an oppressive group and/or regime, in the far future there is a higher chance they will be associated not as animals but as a hate symbol. Apologies if This doesn't clarify enough, but that is all the knowledge I can give on this topic.

Wixty burger, i don't mean to be a negative nelly but is the inclusion of a tank and the monchrome theme not promoting the fascistic aesthetics we are trying to rebuke association with? i also think the tagline could be misconstrued, maybe try something like #manulove! or a phrase with more positive implications? food for thought.

anna_yu, No, unfortunately, there's way too many examples, however it's mostly on english speaking twitter where such vile things live. If you're not on that platform, and/or you're mostly staying on the russian internet, you lucked out and all this is missing you.

But right here I see cringe black-and-white photos of Boris in front of a tank and of Zelenogorsk in front of some stupid slogan, and for the second day now I’ve been itching to complain to the moderator about all this "action."

anna_yu, Right. But consider this: just because you personally didn't notice, doesn't mean it's not happening. 

Obviously many people are noticing, and don't like manuls used in such way.

anna_yu, I see your concern, but it really is as large as we are saying it is. Under every manul video I see someone ask if it’s a dogwhistle. And as a person who dearly loves manuls, I hate to see them being portrayed like that. I understand that you don’t care as much as me and other users do but even treating the “PalaSS” comment like a small issue is dismissive as it holds much deeper political and historical meaning than just being a simple comment on a social media post. 

Manuls are being used to spread hate, mostly over english speaking sides of platforms like TikTok and Twitter.

I understand that you may find the slogan weird or unnecessary but please at least do your research before saying such disrespectful things like how “one comment” which includes nazi propaganda, is nothing to fuss over.

There are other people that have pointed out this issue on social media and while it not be so widespread now, manuls could potentially turn into a hate symbol

even if you think it’s stupid, there’s no point in telling people making posters against oppression and reclaiming a growing symbol of hate that their efforts are unappreciated and mean nothing.

many people are affected by this hate so please be more considerate and try look from other’s perspective before putting down others work.

Odinea / Одинея, I had to clarify multiple times to friends and others that I'm not associated with those people, its frustrating for people like me being accused of hating others based on an animal video. Even though I do not have TikTok or Twitter, the impact is clear if I'm being associated with such nonsense. That's why I wrote this post, because the hate symbol is becoming mainstream. If it's making people ashamed to be a manul lover, then it's not just imagination, it's a reality.

anna_yu, i'm not going to bring anything more political into this as the main focus is what manuls are coming to symbolise, but ignoring what is happening and refusing to aknowledge that it is happening is really concerning. You dont care that manuls are coming to symbolise hate and its implying that you support this hate or dont care that people are being affected. I really dont want to argue about this as the forum is about manuls and manuls alone but be more considerate and show that you care outside of your own experiences. Like Lynx, ive had multiple run ins about facism and manuls all because i enjoy the beautiful pallas's cat. This is just happening outside your circle, its not like its not happening at all.

Im also so dissapointed from the state of manul community,we must organize to fight and protect manuls from any ideology of hate
