Question: are Pallas's cats brushed out?

He is still in his winter coat and has only shed a third of it.

Is it true that in some zoos Pallas's cats are brushed out? Do you know about this? If so, does the keeper require hospitalization afterward?

Pallas's Cats naturally shed their winter coat on their own before the summer starts. That's why we sometimes see remains of the winter coat hanging from the back, which has not fully come off yet.
In the case of Grusha, sometimes the shedded winter coat is picked up by workers. I was lucky enough to touch his fur once.
According to our observations, the process, intensity, and speed of shedding in an animal can change with age, and also depend on its state of health and individual characteristics. That is why even two seemingly identical Pallas's cats may shed with +/- different intensity — this is considered acceptable.
In young animals, the coat is usually renewed more quickly, whereas in older ones shedding may be longer, more difficult, and less even, including the formation of mats and tufts.
If shedding in a particular animal drags on too long or mats begin to form, the keepers at the Novosibirsk Zoo help their charge, the Pallas's cat, “change into” its summer coat by brushing it out (we know that at the Leningrad Zoo, Sven is helped in this way too).
After this procedure, the keepers remain alive, because keepers are superheroes! :)))

Perhaps new keepers are simply hired after the brushing-out. We don’t know them by face or by name, the way we know the manuls.
