Feeding at the Novosibirsk Zoo

more_horiz

It has been a little while since my visit, but these are the feeding times at Novosibirsk Zoo.
First, on September 19: when the keeper arrived with rats and chicks, the Pallas's cat kittens bounded after her in excitement. The keeper then tossed the food into the enclosure.

On September 20, the keeper entered the enclosure to feed them—a way I had never seen before, as the meat had always been tossed in previously. (I have been visiting here every September for three years.)

In Japan, meat is typically placed in several spots in the enclosure, or manulcats are fed using tongs individually.

Seeing a different approach to feeding at Novosibirsk Zoo made for a truly fascinating experience🐾

Omg I can't believe the height they achieved up that fence!  And the speed of that final snatch!  They're such little bundles of excitement!!!  Thank you for the great videos!

Bounce, bounce, bounce!  Delightful!  From now on when I think of the phrase "feeding time at the zoo" this is what will come to mind.  Along of course with the old and perennially adorable video of feeding kittens chunks of meat and how one decided to bite the keeper on the ankle.  I hope he was wearing thick socks.
