Idk how to express this in a way that survives translation but every time someone asks in Russian "which manul is this?" (at least I assume, asking for the manul's name), it translates into English as "what kind (type) of manul is this." And I think THERE ARE TYPES OF MANUL??? But no it's just a quirk of the translation! 😅
And how many species are there, really? There is manul manul, there is manul nigripectus, and the red ones seem to have been classified as manul manul. Are there any others?
helga ingvar,
Since 2017, the Cat Specialist Group’s taxonomic working group has recognized only two subspecies: the Siberian (manul manul) and the Tibetan (manul nigripectus).
