Solitaire—the loveliest Pallas's cat, who used to live in Schönbrunn Zoo.
She was born on March 18, 2000 in Schönbrunn Zoo, her parents are uncertain for us at the moment. Read more about the travels of Solitaire.
Solitaire was given her name in Schönbrunn Zoo where she was born. The name Soliter comes from the French word "le solitaire" — “lonely,” “solitary,” “hermit”—which perfectly reflects the independent nature and solitary lifestyle of the manul. Solitaire is also the name for a gemstone, usually a diamond, set separately in a piece of jewelry, as well as a popular card game for one person. Read more about the names of Solitaire.
Unfortunately Solitaire is not with us anymore. She passed away on October 12, 2012, she was twelve years old.
Pallas's cats rarely live more than 5 years in the wild. In zoos under human care Pallas's cats live longer. Solitaire lived a long and happy manul-life in comfort and being loved.
