Meet one of the most elusive and mysterious manuls we've encountered—Altay the Pallas’s cat! He lives in Izhevsk Zoo (Udmurt Zoo).

He's eight years old, born on April 7, 2016 in Novosibirsk Zoo to the family of Karaganda the Pallas's cat and Markiza the Pallas's cat. Read more about the travels of Altay.

Altay owns a luxurious, two-story wooden mansion with a balcony in the capital of Udmurtia! His home is equipped with various shelves, a tray with sawdust, and a cozy little house for sleeping. In winter, his chambers are insulated with hay, and on especially cold days, a special heating lamp adds warmth and comfort. Altay boasts a strikingly beautiful and perfectly symmetrical pattern of spots on his forehead—a true Udmurt barin!

Our furry hero leads a secretive life, is highly unsociable, and very rarely appears to the public. Spotting him is a pure luck! According to our observations, the best time to catch a glimpse of him is at the end of the zoo's working day. When the ambient sounds fade, Altay slowly and cautiously emerges onto his balcony... but shhh—let’s keep it a secret!
