What is the best time to see the Leningrad manuls?
Hi, manulization! In November I’m planning to visit the Leningrad Zoo, and one question has been bothering me: at what time is the chance of seeing the local manuls highest? I’d really hate to come all that way and end up not seeing anyone, because seeing a manul in person is my biggest dream ):

When we were at the Leningrad Zoo, it seemed to us that seeing a manul there would be fairly easy.
Shu and Pepe are very active guys, and Namika spends all her time outdoors.
Sven, of course, is a homebody, and he’s not easy to spot; it’s better to find out when the manuls will be fed that day to increase your chances of seeing him.
There are kittens there too, and in their first year kittens are very active, so I think you’ll have no trouble seeing them 😻
They are usually fed in the second half of the day.
We went to the demonstration feedings twice; they’re held on Wednesday and Friday at 14:30. That’s when everyone definitely comes out 😄. After feeding, the kittens keep playing for a long time under Pepe’s watchful eye.
But in general, already at 11:00–12:00 the kittens, Pepe, and Shu were active, and about half an hour before feeding they all gradually started to come out.
It’s starting to get colder now, and the manuls are waking up their first fattening instincts, so they should be even more active! 🥰
