Kosoglazik is a charming Pallas’s cat with special eyes, who used to live in Novosibirsk Zoo.
He was born on May 7, 2018 in Novosibirsk Zoo to the family of Zelenogorsk the Pallas's cat and Lastochka the Pallas's cat.
Kosoglazik was raised by a domestic cat.
In his childhood, he suffered severely from toxoplasmosis, which noticeably affected his eyes: they became crossed. That’s why we affectionately named him Kosoglazik (Косоглазик), which means “cross-eyed” in Russian.
Unfortunately Kosoglazik is not with us anymore. He passed away 2019–2020, he was seven months old.
One of the biggest problems of keeping Pallas's cats in captivity is the high mortality rate among Pallas's kittens. They are most vulnerable during their first year of life. In the first year of life mortality rate among Pallas's kittens in zoos varies from 50% to 70%. In the wild mortality rate varies from 70% to 90%. Unfortunately Kosoglazik didn't survive the first year of his life.
