In the winter of 2011–2012 Varvara moved from Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia to Daursky Reserve.
In 2012 Varvara moved from Daursky Reserve to Moscow zoo.
When Varvara was caught, she weighed only 1.6 kg. At the zoo, she was put on a vitamin-rich diet and soon gained normal weight.
