Khvost—the marvelous Pallas's cat, who used to live in Leningrad zoo.
He was born on April 11, 2007 in Leningrad zoo to the family of Genghis the Pallas's cat and Kelen the Pallas's cat.
Unfortunately Khvost is not with us anymore. He passed away on November 11, 2007, he was seven months old.
One of the biggest problems of keeping Pallas's cats in captivity is the high mortality rate among Pallas's kittens. They are most vulnerable during their first year of life. In the first year of life mortality rate among Pallas's kittens in zoos varies from 50% to 70%. In the wild mortality rate varies from 70% to 90%. Unfortunately Khvost didn't survive the first year of his life.
Khvost was given his name in Leningrad zoo where he was born. Read more about the names of Khvost.
